Is my magic deck good?
yes...

make tarot cards too and sell them
Reply:Most of this deck is good, but i am not very good at telling you exactly what is wrong because i'm only specialized in Black type cards, i think you need less creatures though
Reply:awsome thoes cards are sweet. good luck in what ever your doing.
Reply:Wow!! That's awesome....I wish I had those
Reply:No it's bad, sorry. You have too many cards in the deck (43 spell and 23 land, 66 total). You need to take out 5 or six spell cards. There's a lot of tweaking needed to be done to make it a strong deck. Now 66 isn't that many but with your land count, you may have trouble drawing lands.

Just a few things to start with:

You have too many single cards (some singles are OK), you should have multiple copies so you have a better chance in drawing them. If you slim it down to 60 cards and you only have one Doubling Season in the deck you have a 1 in 48 chance of drawing it by the time you can cast it. And you want it out as early as possible for when you are making token creatures. If you have 4 in your deck then by your fifth turn instead on a 1 in 48 chance you now have a 1 in 12 chance of drawing one if you haven't already drawn one. If you want help LMK. I am available to email.

Second version looks much better at a quick glance. I would take out 1 Scion and the 2 Lantern Kami and put in 3 Sprout Swarm.
Reply:As Big meantioned, you have too many of 1 card. This deck would be much better if you had 3-4 of each card in your deck. I recommend upping your count. And since you are running 66 cars total your gonna have to throw out 6 cards or at least sidebord them.
Reply:The deck looks pretty fun, but the problem is that due to you having so many singles as a poster above me mentioned, it's going to be hard to draw the ones you want.

Do you go to diabetes camp?

i go to camp kudzu, but i was just wondering what other great camps are out there for us?

Do you go to diabetes camp?
No, I didn't know there was such a thing. I just camp like regular people.
Reply:There are several diabetes camps. I believe information about the different ones is on the ADA website (diabetes.org).

No, I never went to diabetes camp. I was diagnosed in my mid-20s and I'm too old to be a camper. However, I thought about looking into being a counselor next summer. As a diabetic EMT, I think it would be a great experience.

When I was younger, I went to Girl Scout camp every summer. I loved it and I made friends that I still have today (more than 30 years later).

Reply:I went to Camp Ho Mita Koda, near Cleveland, Ohio.

It was amazing and I had a lot of fun the 4 summers that I went (except the one where I had a seizure and ended up in the hospital!!).

I was one of the only kids with a pump at the time, which was pretty sweet because I got to do my own thing. :)
Reply:My daughter went to Clara Barton Camp in Mass for several summers and just loved it.They have a great program.

I believe you can get info on camps from the ADA.

I have somewhat of a problem with alcohol?

when i go out to a bar, its gotten to the point where i dont know how to stop when i am to drunk. i recently started taking kudzu for it,, but anyway, my friend says to me, "i just get nauteous when i get to drunk thats how i know to stop" i WISSHHHHH (gosh u have no idea), that i would get nauteous when enough is enough. does anyone know why i dont get nauteous if ive had enough and she does? do u think she is at blackout levels when she is nauteous or do people just react differently to high levels of alcohol ( some vomit others dont)

I have somewhat of a problem with alcohol?
Fu*k it, all problems can be fixed with a drink, cheers
Reply:Start by alternating your drinks with water. It gets the alcohol into your bloodstream faster, and makes you drunker quicker.

If you want to drink less, bring cash. Don't run a tab. That way you have to stop. And for goodness sake, do not drive. Take a cab or designate a driver.
Reply:It is obvious that you have a drinking problem. From the sounds of your request, how you worded and spelled the words, you are young and immature. Anyone with a brain, however little, would know that you should stay far far away from bars. If you have friends that insist you go to these bars, well then maybe they do not have your best interest at heart. Your setting what you are going to be like when you get older by continuing going to bars. You can be young, but, still be smart at the same time.
Reply:Jumpin' Jeezuz, y'all be's f'd up!!
Reply:Everyone reacts differently to high levels of alcohol. If you have to ask about your drinking then it's already a problem. Try cutting back and if that doesn't work then quit. It's not worth ruining your life over. Women have all kinds of health repercussions that men don't get for a while. Look up what alcohol does to women in particular and it may scare you into making better decisions. Do your homework and take care of yourself. I recently cut my alcohol intake to one a night if that and feel so much better but not everybody can do that. If it ever got to the point I was at then I would stop entirely. I don't need it if it's going to cause problems. I never got nauseated.

Okay, so I have this huge oak tree.......?

It's very old, and I've always thought it had a kind of spirit, just in the way living things do. But when I'm out lifting weights, I have seen this figure looking at me. Ive been able to get a very good look at it. It's small, like a little person but has skin that looks like bark. If it catches me looking at it takes off into the tree and when I try to find it I can't. I've looked up Dryads but the only description I could find looked like a regular human being. Thing is, now I feel I have a responsibility to take care of this tree, hence cut out dead branches and kudzu, which I don't mind, but what the heck is this thing?

And please, no jerk answers, I'm not on drugs, even for weightlifting.

Okay, so I have this huge oak tree.......?
How lucky you are! The oak tree is the tree of truth. It is ancient and wise and has an old spirit. It was an important tree for the druids. The mistletoe of the oak tree has many magickal properties.

It is said that if there is a question in your heart that you cannot find the answer to then go to an oak tree and embrace it and ask the spirit of the oak tree to answer your question. The oakman will send you a prophetic dream.

You seem to have met the oakman! Take very good care of your tree and the oakman will reward you in life!
Reply:Get you some sleep. Once you have had plenty of rest go into the woods and look at the trees.

Do the trees in the woods require your help to maintain their existence? No.

Tree trimming only needs to be done to improve your impression of the tree. Cut out the dead wood but don't overdo it. You don't want to kill your tree.

Check out Howard Garrett, The Dirt Doctor. He is an organic landscape/gardener, etc with plenty of info on tree care.

I know it may sound a little silly but it is a neat little website and webcam. Take a look at the other peoples stories and you will see that you are not alone. Consider yourself lucky that you have this wonderful gift. Oh yea the tree does have a spirit all trees do some are simply stronger than others.
Reply:Next time, set up a camera to record yourself doing the weightlifting and when you see this thing appear and then disappear....then check out your video recorder.

Let us know if it shows up.
Reply:aye you have found the meaning of your life.. good going
Reply:gray squrrial i bet ?
Reply:Now, no one can claim that they have a definitive answer on this, because there are too many unexplained phenomena in this world.

However, since your spirit seems to be benevolent, i.e. your weights don't suddnely increase their weight, or your bench doesn't break, it would seem that you have a guardian spirit. Do take care of your tree, as it has seen fit to make its spirit known to you.

The Japanese, and also the Native American, believe that EVERYTHING has a spirit in it, and who's to say, that isn't so. As you care for your tree, keep an eye out for unusual sensations in the area of your tree. I have found that a tree with a spirit will be warmer to the touch, than a "normal" tree.
Reply:oh wow are you serious? i dont know what it is, but thats awesome

Should our daughters share a bedroom?

We have two daughters, an 8 year old and 4 year old. Right now, they are in their own rooms. My wife and I are thinking life might be easier if we put their beds in one room and their toys in one room. The new "toy" room would also hold all their school work which now overwhelms our office (my wife and I both have desks for us to work, but their schoolwork often takes over like kudzu).

So, has anyone had their daughters move into the same bedroom? Does it work or am I asking for more headaches? I don't want to have to split them up again in 6 months.

Should our daughters share a bedroom?
A perfectly sound and good idea. Practicality is always a must in the family unit and would give you the space for both your work and their projects.

However it would all depend on their relationship together or more so how the eight year old's emotions play a part not only in her feeling for her 'space' but how she relates to her little sibling.

The toddler will probably think it's a 'neat' idea so the important point will be the older girls views after discussing it with her.

If she is of a really gentle nature in herself and towards her little sister and can accomodate the move with genuine enthusiasm and support it from the family's point of view I would say you're okay for a balanced harmony for quite a while.

Just involve her in the decision because it is important.
Reply:Well, i am answering from the opposite end of the spectrum. I have to share a room with my sister who is eight years younger than me. Our room is very small, especially with two beds shoved in there. Putting your girls together should probably depend on a few different things...

first, if they get along pretty well, it will definitely make things easier. Also, if the room is small-ish; i would suggest getting bunk beds to take up less room.

You also might want to consider how long this arrangement is planned to last. Your elder daughter will soon be begging for privacy as she turns into a teenager.

hope this helped!
Reply:have them share the same bedroom, but have a dividing screen, so they can make the choice if they want to be together, or they their own privacy...i loved having my baby sister sharing with me, but we had a huge bedroom , and we both had our own space, which was important because we were 10 years apart!

but i was there when she had her nightmares, and her illnesses, and it worked so well.....
Reply:I don't see any reason why they can't share a room. If the room is large enough for each of them to have their own space. They can each choice how they want their part to look. You can even do something similar in the toy/play room for them. It will teach them how to share and get along. If they are doing well together now, then being in the same room after an adjustment period should work out.

My kids are in the same room and it works. For school work and play they also have an area other then the room for this.
Reply:Sharing works fine, I am one of 7 children and shared up unitl I was 16, I even shared with my brothers at times with a dividing curtain.

But have you considered just making them a study area in each of thier rooms, i.e. a desk in the corner, that way they keep thier privacy and have somewhere to study.
Reply:Been there, done that, and regretted it. It won't be long before your 8 year old wants her own space again.
Reply:My girls 8 %26amp; 9 share a room. They are either best friends or worst enemies. You can explain to your girls that they will be able to have their toys in one room and sleep in another and when they get on each others nerves then one can play in the room and one in the playroom. I would also suggest that maybe set up some time for your older daughter to play without her little sister, so she feels like she has her own space. Good Luck!
Reply:you should. especially at this age when they're still young. that way, they could probably bond more. because trust me, when they get older, your not going to see a whole lot of that bonding.
Reply:yes
Reply:I would say either leave them in their own rooms, or put them together but by the time the oldest reaches middle school, separate them again. =] Girls like privacy %26amp; space. =]
Reply:Why can't their personal rooms hold their personal stuff - desks for school work etc? If you are afraid of maybe having to split them again in 6 months surely that is a better solution.

On the other hand I quite successfully shared a room with 4 sisters for many years. It was a struggle at times, but we made it work and surely it wont be that bad for your two -eh?

Very invasive weed identification? Please help??!!?

The previous owners of our home planted a horribly invasive, vine-like plant (weed?) that virtually took over the rock and wood mulch area next to our driveway. Last summer it become a HUGE bush before we had time to even chop it back a little. The stems are kind of fibrous and very very strong, and they've even begun to grow in the gravel drive.

What in the world is this plant? I'm pretty sure it's not kudzu, as I live in eastern Washington and the deep freezes would kill kudzu (I think).

Help!!!!!

Trumpet vine. Paint leaves with undiluted roundup. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/vi...
Reply:You don't say where you are in Eastern Washington, but contact your County Extension Service, or the Extension Service at WSU. They will be able to identify it, and tell you how to treat it.
Reply:Look like trumpet vine to me. Will produce red, tubular flowers. Hummingbirds love it. But if you turn your back on the stuff, it will eat your house.

Plus, it nearly takes nepalm to kill the stuff.
Reply:doesn't look like kudzu ,some type of ivy maybe ,dig and burn and dig or go get some roundup..............tom

Quiting alcohol?

hi i managed a week not drinking but went back to drinking thought it was allright to drink im drinking on efexor and noticed a shift in my mood its just to boredom gets to me last time i tried to quit my family were very suportive but not so much this time around but im going to start again i got some kudzu but havent tried it yet i just need some inspiration

Quiting alcohol?
There's more to it than just stopping. AA can and has been a lifesaver for thousands, if not millions.

Don't be alone in your efforts. Call AA.
Reply:you could go to a doctor and he can give you a benzo or an antidepressent that is used off-label to help people quit alcohol.

surround yourself with people who are supportive of your recovery.

talk to your family and friends honestly about how your alcohol use has affected them (probably negatively), and be open to what they have to say.

take up some fun hobbies to avoid boredom.

go to a support group or AA meeting.

Hang in there!! Something that helps me (recovering from alcohol and benzos) is to say to myself "What is the worst thing that will happen if I DON"T take that drink? I'll be exactly where I am now! And I shouldn't feel sorry for myself to justify drinking if I am in a bad mood."
Reply:Been there.

The obvious answer is to just stop - that is what most people will advise...but

The best thing to do is get a routine - one that keeps your day busy. If you do plan to have a drink, give yourself a limit and stick to it. Try a couple of drinks as a nightcap and go straight to bed.

And no cheating.
Reply:first u have to understand the root cause of this problem y u drink..just sit down and write down all the possible cause for it and than put it aside and read it next day and analyse r they really a cause? and stop thinking that u have to leave it cuz if u keep on forcing yourself than u will not able to leave it cuz it will alws remind of alcohol!!! just understand the root cause of it than it will automatically go u dont have to leave it...it will go itself..
Reply:You could go to a hypnotherapist - they can stop you from drinking in one or more sessions. Or, set a daily limit to yourself, keep to that limit. You have to be strong-willed in this situation! Good Luck!!
Reply:I hope my advise works but i see what your problem is. You can't quit cold turkey, you need to ease it out. If your an alcoholic then try and drink less alcohol each day and then eventually you can get used to drinking 1 glass a day then maybe try 1-3 glasses a week. Not big glasses, small glasses or normal sized ones. Try and tell yourself that you are doing this for you and your family. Drinking too much alcohol can damage your liver and give you liver disease.

I hope my advise works. Merry Xmas

Business question?

hi please help ok so i live in arizona and i want to do some work like if someone needs floors installed or a tv or network like general hady work what do i need to do to one comply with law and other to get my business going i listed on kudzu.com now what should i go and get paperwork can i the problem is im 17 but i have experiance which i can write even on a resume and do you think age is a problem well like a said i just want to do general handywork what do i need to do now to get myself there thank you for any help

Business question?
You would need to check with the local city hall and or the local courthouse as to what license's/permits etc you would have to get to do this type of work. Not sure about the age requirement, but here again, the local officials can give you the correct information. In some instances, you wouldn't actually need any type of license for certain handy man type jobs, but it's better to actually know all the requirements and be safe rather than sorry. Once you accomplish all of this, you can also go to http://www.craigslist.org and post a free ad to generate business.

Stupid Plants!!!!!!!!?

I need to find out the effects that kudzu has on humans, "other organisms" and ecosystems. Why did the crazy people at the 1976 worlds fair even hsve to import it in the first place! If those losers didn't even do that, I would'nt even have to do this project!

Stupid Plants!!!!!!!!?
Well, I work at a zoo and know the impact of kudzu on other organism. You see, kudzu is an invasive species, in other words, it has been moved to another environment where it never would normally be. It is a serious competitor with other plants and beats them in the race for water, sunlight and nutrients. By doing this, it can wipe out an entire species of plants. And without a certain species of plant, other organisms may not be able to survive. All in all, this plant is causing a fairly large chain reaction that could eventually lead to terrible things.

As to why those weirdos imported it, I can only say that we humans are always making stupid decisions and don't listen to sense. But if I ever meet the people that did it, they'll get an ear-full from me and my fellow zoo staff.

Good luck though.
Reply:I'm not sure about the question, but I love youre name b/c God is an awsome person!!
Reply:i dont get ur question

Joke::Hillbilly Valentine...?

Kudzu is green, My dog's name is Blue, And I'm so lucky to have a sweet thang like you.

Yore hair is like cornsilk, A-flapping in the breeze. Softer than Blue's, And without all them fleas.

You move like the bass, Which excite me in May. You ain't got no scales, But I luv you anyway.

You're as graceful as okry, Jist a-dancin' in the pan. Yo're as fragrant as SunDrop, Right out of the can.

You have all yore teeth, For which I am proud; I hold my head high when we're in a crowd.

On special occasions, when you shave yore armpits, Well, I'm in hawg heaven!

I'm plumb outta my wits. And speakin' of wits, You've got plenty fer shore. 'Cuz you married me, back in '74.

Still them fellers at work, They all want to know, What I did to deserve such a purty, young doe.

Like a good roll of duct tape, Yo're there fer yore man, To patch up life's troubles, And stick 'em in the can.

Yo're as strong as a four-wheeler, Racin' through the mud, Yet fragile as that sanger, Named Naomi Judd.

Yo're as cute as a junebug, A-buzzin' overhead. You ain't mean like no far ant, Upon which I oft' tread.

Cut from the best pattern, Like a flannel shirt of plaid, You sparked up my life, Like a Rattletrap shad.

When you hold me real tight, Like a padded gunrack, My life is complete; Ain't nuttin' I lack.

Yore complexion, it's perfection, Like the best vinyl sidin'. Despite all the years, Yore age, it keeps hidin'.

And when you get old, Like a '57 Chevy, Won't put you on blocks, And let grass grow up heavy.

Me 'n' you's like a Moon Pie, With a RC cold drank, We go together; Like a skunk goes with stank.

Some men, they buy chocolate, For Valentine's Day; They git it at Wal-Mart; It's romantic that way.

Some men git roses, On that special day From the cooler at Kroger; "That's impressive," I say.

Some men buy fine diamonds, From a flea market booth. "Diamonds are forever," They explain, suave and couth.

But for this man, honey, These will not do. For you are too special, You sweet thang you.

Tyler Durden's philosophy on life?

I'm just curious but for the people that have watched Fight Club, has his philosophy on life and anti consumerist view changed your life for the better, and also a side question, how many of you would want the vision of Tyler Durden's world to come true, y'know the description: In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway.

Sounds pretty cool to me, going back to a simple times none of this commerical bullshit, but who else thinks this?

Have you ever seen the movie Sneakers, with Robert Redford? That basically centers around a device that is THE code breaker when it comes to breaking UNBREAKABLE codes, like the ones the IRS and DOD uses, etc. Cryptography. Cool movie. You should see it. The bad dude wants to use it to wipe out all elements of ownership so that everyone will be the same = communism. Robert Redford is out to get the "little black box" back after it was taken from him after he, a "sneaker," stole it from the maker (a mathematician) planning to give it to the NSA who turns out to be some very bad people.

But, seriously, blowing up buildings isn't the way to go about it. We just got to learn to live paycheck to paycheck I guess and get a president who will develop universal healthcare, etc. The old West rules btw!

Kudzu is green, my dog's name is Blue,

And I'm so lucky to have a sweet thang like you.

Yore hair is like cornsilk, a-flappin' in the breeze.

Softer than Blue's, and without all them fleas.

You have all yore teeth, for which I am proud;

I hold my head high when we're in a crowd.

On special occasions, when you shave yore armpits,

Well, I'm in hawg heaven! Plumb outta my wits!

Like a good roll of duct tape, yore there fer yore man,

To patch up life's troubles, and stick 'em in the can.

Yore as strong as a four-wheeler, racin' through the mud,

Yet fragile as that sanger, named Naomi Judd.

When you hold me real tight, like a padded gunrack,

My life is complete; ain't nuttin' I lack.

Yore complexion, it's perfection, like the best vinyl sidin'.

Despite all the years, yore age, it keeps hidin'.

Dog Kennel in North Fulton?

I am looking for a kennel to leave our large puppy at for a week. I have looked at the Kudzu website and have some ideas but am now looking for some input from anyone that has used local kennels and may have recommendations

Dog Kennel in North Fulton?
I do not live in your area, but also have two large dogs that we have to kennel every now and then.

* Contact the local veternarians ask their advice. Some of them may offer this service as well.

* Look around you area for other people who have large dogs and ask them what they do when they go out of town.

* Contact your local Better Business Bureau or Chamber of Commerce, they may have some leads.

* Contact you local Animal Rescue Center or Fire Department as they may have contacts as well.

Good Luck

What do you think?

Due to your vague interest in these matters which have been deemed antisocial by the new thought police, you have been exiled to Cyberia. You may believe your visit to be voluntary, but ask yourself: if you could live—in real time, in full color, without a 'net'—the revolt and transformation you fantasize about, would you be here, contemplating and trading in mere representations of such things? The new isolation chambers and interrogation rooms largely need no judicial procedures or law enforcement to fill them—we confine ourselves to these office cubicles, internet cafes, and lonely bedrooms willingly, even believing ourselves to have found access to our dreams and desires here. Not to criticize you, of course—since obviously I am in the same situation as you, similarly self-exiled. But let's use this time in the wilderness as the political prisoners of old did: not to get accustomed to it, not to build new lives around this voluntary amputation, but to educate ourselves, increase our powers and connections, so when we can return to society we will be armed with new tools for dismantling and reconceiving it. Let us take the world itself back, rather than the "information superhighways" upon which we are being herded so quickly away from it, so one day there will be no need for anyone to return here, ever again, for in the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway.

People mostly like their fast cars and microwave popcorn. The simple life we leave to the Amish. Sadly some ideas come from the absolution of history. In years to come people will call our ways old fashioned and want to go back to them. There may seem like there isn't enough room for nature, but really it's just evolved to support one species in particular over all others.

Kudzu is invasive and it pushes out other native species. Those native species can then become extinct.

Why more Trees, it makes no sense?

Okay, once again, a serious question for a gw skeptic.

Why would you plant more trees?

Trees are seasonal, ie their leaves are only around for a short period of time. And for those of you that road the short bus to school, the leaves are what recycles co2 not the trunk or limbs.

Would it not make more sense to plant vine like plants such as kudzu or replace acers of forrest with grass?

You could make an statement about evergreens, however, a blade of grass is much thicker, so I doubt an evergreen needle is going to produce as much oxygen as a blade of grass.

Grass is like the floor in your house or better yet in a store. You don't pay any attention to it, but no matter what happens to the isles (shelves) it's always there and covers every inch, instead of a few random spots.

Why more Trees, it makes no sense?
Just because they are pretty!
Reply:You still need trees to provide oxygen for the planet. Take away the trees and you take away the major contributor of our planet's oxygen makers.
Reply:Kudzu kills the plants it grows on. It was imported into parts of the south as erosion control and it proved to be an out of control menace. While it is pretty during the spring and summer, it withers and dies quickly in cold weather.

"Road" the short bus? Speaking from experience?

1 million trees such as orchards requires in chemistry over

3000 vehicles no matter if it is harvested and packaged or rots.

There are 5 attended orchards on this world. Orchards is the

number one identifier of network of planets, very similar. Before

orchards at 80% of astronomy within enterprise show that this is

relative to berries the 30% buffer of civilizations versus mongrol

histories. If two thirds of the world lives in military strictness the

incidence of drownings in breeding leaders eventually shows

losses in production people. Histories actual events are not

true without verification like acceptance by the animal kingdom.

Tree planting by reserves is 90% by android type machinery.

The 10% is the control item to keep information on what is out

there and highly sensitive to losses from long term radio mix ups.

That is the point of planting is important, it is a priority security.

76% of orchard foods is eaten, and 78% of the workload of

this planet is through for well over 4000 years, the cycle was

forced through in 1960s. New oxygen form in space area is now

up by 500%. People become shorter by 30% in long range use

of automobiles, snomobiles, jeeps, and trams. Planning husbandry is the key to anything making sense.
Reply:simplest things almost the best thing any thing found in great amount give the opposite result so trees must found %26amp; must sow to get our o2 but it is better to be in small amount the new research found that plants make respiration in day 3-5 in night
Reply:Rode, not road. That's a pretty funny spelling error when you are making a derogatory comment about people riding the short bus to school.

Rain Forests are not limited by season, they are green year-round.

In addition to the Northern and Southern Hemispheres having opposite seasonal schedules. It's summer here now and winter below the equator.

Grass also dies off in the winter. I'm sure your neighbor and the city would have something to say if you didn't mow your lawn.
Reply:You're correct that it's not a simple deal of just planting trees. It requires careful thought and analysis.

Tropical forests are more effective at removing CO2, because they do grow year round. So fighting tropical deforestation is more important than planting trees in temperate climates.

Grass just doesn't make very good use of vertical space. Kudzu has bad side effects because it tends to take over everything uncontrollably.

In temperate climates, being clever about what trees you plant can make them more effective.

http://seedmagazine.com/news/2006/10/fin...

And, at their extreme range away from the Equator (where evergreens grow, because they need to be very efficient), planting trees may be counterproductive, Their very slow growth (which is what removes CO2) does not overcome the fact that they're dark and turn sunlight into heat. Even growing year round doesn't make up for limited sunlight and photosynthesis.

Trees can make sense, but only if done correctly. People are doing a lot of research to find out what works best. It's not just simply "plant trees".
Reply:The way I see it is two fold...

1. The bigger the plant, i.e. a tree, the more co2 consumption. Also the age of the plant determines the rate of consumption. A young plant/tree will consume more co2 as it is growing/maturing.

2. More trees because it is a renewable resource. The professional logging industry is planting 5 trees for every 1 they cut down. In certain states in the south the forest are growing at a faster rate then can be harvested...
Reply:Ok first of all most of the trees in the world are not deciduous. therefor they continue to exchange CO2 for O2 year around. now you must look at how much Co2 and O2 is exchanged in relationship to how much other nutrients are used and other benefits and an average tree provides far more benefit than grass/vines etc. example of this is O2 and Co2 exchange is far more efficient than most plants, they return more nutrients to the soil than most other plants, they maintain soil integrity (hold soil together), they provide micro- climates for lots of other plants to grow that otherwise would not be able to excise at that location not to mention habitats for animal. now consumer product benefits are simple to see the benefits of trees over grass
Reply:You must in a city. Why do I say this./ You have little knowledge of plants. Kudzu is just like trees in the fall. The leaves fall off and you have this dead vine. There are evergreen trees that do not drop any leaves but do slow down there use of co2 in the winter. If you have ever walked in to the woods on a hot day you can free the cool air flowing out of the trees and there is no grass on the floor of the woods.
Reply:Also, remember rain forest trees never die back. There is only one season in the rain forest.
Reply:And what about all the gas it takes to cut a big lawn area of those 'blades of grass'???????
Reply:Trees are a part of a fragile ecosystem which takes decades or centuries in case of Redwoods, Sequoias, etc to build back.

We shouldn't be cutting trees(Preventive Maintenance) at the first place, rather we are doing to protect the earth by planting trees(Breakdown Maintenance). An individual tree in the Evergreen forests, Redwood forests have their own ecosystem within the ecosystem of the forest. Now biologists and ecologists have discovered so many new species of birds above the canopy of redwoods, which serve as a part of self-sustaining ecosystem.

Now, to answer your question why do we plant more trees. These are the following reasons:

1) To prevent soil erosion which is happening as Man's egocentric greed to have more land

2) To Contain more ground water, as it takes more time for rain water from the leaf canopy to trickle down to the floor, as the floor absorbs it.

3) CO2 absorption.

4) Reduce Dust and smog(they act like natural air filters)

5) To preserve the home for the inhabitants of the tree. -----------

If a tree is felled which has birds, bats and Owls (which ate the rats which infest the fields, and houses), Bees (which polinate the nearby flowers for their survival) and other animals beneficial to the ecosystem, where do they go??

It is easy to compare analogies sitting in the desk of a house or in an office. How much have we as humans have learned a tree can contribute by observing it daily? If you know CO2 rises up, so a blade of grass all together can only convert few amounts available closer to the land, But the tree leaves are higher and cover a larger area to absorb CO2.

We stop to exercise, or drink or do good things to keep ourselves fit and healthy. Has ever a tree complained to you from doing a good thing?

Hope this helps. Let us preserve the world for the future generations(Let this be a convincing reason).
Reply:You would plant more trees because even if they are seasonal you can still reduce the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increase clean oxygen. Or you could plant an evergreen that does photosynthesis all year. Or if you plant more trees all over the world then they will be producing all year because the seasons vary in the different hemispheres.
Reply:One tree provides enough air for a family of four for one year. (Even when dormant, the tree, when it has leaves on it, does a lot of CO2 removal).

Now, when grass gets dry, it goes brown, thus, no CO2 exchange can occur. Leaves dont go brown until in the fall, when they fall off, thus continually exchange CO2 for oxygen.

Pines are great, but, too great of a fire hazard! You get a forest of pine ablaze and its almost impossible to put out, versus a forest of deciduous trees.

Also, trees abate wind control, and in the planes area you dont have so many trees, and that is probably why you have so many tornadoes! Nothing to stop the swirling on the ground.

I wish you well...

Jesse
Reply:When a tree has leaves on its branches, there is ALOT more surface area than a patch of grass would have in its place. As for evergreens, the same applies, there are more needles on an evergreen than there would be in a patch of grass replacing it.
Reply:There are several reasons to plant trees. Trees don't only offer co2 absorption %26amp; oxygen production. They offer shade, which keeps the earth cooler %26amp; if you build your house under them your utility bills will be lower. Also, the deep rooting system of trees helps to prevent soil erosion.

Aesthetically speaking, they're much more enjoyable to look at, especially in the fall, than boring old grass!
Reply:Greetings;

You might want to check out your nearest conservation departments brochures on tree planting. I didn't ride the short bus to school, sorry, but I live in the country and will provide you with some knowledge I have. Different types of trees give off oxygen not only thru their leaves during the summer but also thru the winter time as well. Take a Xmas tree or some call cedar tree, fur tree, or others. They give off oxygen year round. Tree's not only provide oxygen but a home to many birds and other types of animals. Squirrels, and birds use tree's as a refuge from other predators, nesting, and living in them all year. Other animals feed off of the tree leaves such as deer, bunnies, squirrels, etc. Some trees produce food (berries) that humans and animals can both eat.

And as for grass, it depends on where you live. Some types of grass thrive no matter where you plant them or if they are a native to the area and are adapted to the environment, they require minimum upkeep. If you sow your grass, or pod it like most new homes have installed after the construction of the home, it requires maintenance as well. Just look at nature as I do. If nature needs a drink, water it. If you need a drink, get a glass and quench your thirst.

Please check out the Missouri Department of Conservation online and you will find many more answers to your questions about trees, oxygen and other plants that help in the oxygen cycle. If we don't have trees and plants, we don't breathe the oxygen they give off. Imagine breathing nothing but carbon dioxide. We wouldn't live very long.
Reply:I have a personal fetish for trees. I don't even mind bringing one into my house about once a year. But if you really want to go to vines may I suggest poison ivy or oak? They are really wonderful and can grow much higher than most others. Grass is recycled through herding critters who in turn return it to the air as methane, another pollutant. If everyone turned to vegetarianism it might help global warming a little.
Reply:Trees also provide shade to park your car under on hot days.
Reply:Sometimes folks think they know better than nature. Trees make perfect sense where they naturally occur. Otherwise, you are looking at an energy intensive endeavor. Grasses, in general, makes much more sense in certain environments. It's the way nature has been doing it for millions of years.

Those that want to make the argument for carbon sequestering in wood: this is only true for short-term timescales. Eventually, all the carbon is released when the tree dies. The net long-term effect is ZERO.

Unless you look into responsible forestry - harvesting wood for human use, treatment to resist decay.
Reply:there are trees as old as the country you live in. some 300 years old what do you mean SEASONAL?

Grass needs more water than an evergreen and the evergreen grows in soil grass cant anyway . . apart from that it provides habitat.

but on the other hand deciduous trees do that too and are more efficient air filters that is true. and we have enough evergreens. we need oak ,elm , maple...mmmm maple rrrrrgghh

So exactly what have you done about this your own self?
Reply:Trees act as a canopy that protects the earth and they absorb way more water than a blade of grass. They probably both stop erosion. Have you ever seen a shade blade of grass? Try hiding from the sun under a blade of grass. I'll take a shade tree over grass any day. I hate mowing the lawn. Mowing causes more destructive gasses.
Reply:A tree also can be seen as 'a tube of water towering into the sky'... Yes, some trees shed their leaves, but in the tropics, those that do (like the Pacific Almond) quickly start growing new leaves, almost the same day they shed..

Just use your own imagination and common sense. Go to a part of the city where there are no trees and stand around for a day, then go to a part of the city where there are trees and stand around for a day. Which day was more pleasant?
Reply:Trees are the lungs to our planet, Trees are the home for hundreds of thousands of species of animals birds and insects, how many live in/on grass. Trees absorb vast amounts of water that hold hillsides and land in place, you don't think so ??? well look at Bangladesh, the worst flooding in the regions history came about after logging, and the loss of life was greater than the Tsunami a couple of years ago. We need more trees if we want to continue using wood as a medium for all that we do now. Plus there is medicinal benefits to had from these fantastic entities. And another thing TREES are beautiful, no two are the same.
Reply:Eh? What are you talking about? It is nothing to do with oxygen production. It is all to do with carbon sequestering. That is locking up the carbon from the atmosphere in carbon based products. Such as WOOD. Which is what trees are generally made of even in the winter. Unlike a blade of grass, which returns to the soil, decomposes and releases carbon dioxide. Which is the green house gas we are talking about. So this is why we say plant more trees. OK? Lawns require far more energy in terms of carbon based fuels and fertilizers than they could possibly consume. OK?

Why shouldn't you move firewood?

According to Bobs MonOncle, you shouldn't move firewood (along with not planting kudzu, which is what the question asked.) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

I was just wondering...why not move firewood? What does this mean? Bobs can answer as can others.

Why shouldn't you move firewood?
I'm with RScott. It's all about the Emerald Ash Borer right now, especially in the upper Midwest where a serious effort is underway to halt its spread. I live in a rural area that is very touristy in summer and people are just oblivious and ignorant. Campgrounds can seize wood that you've brought in from elsewhere and require you to buy local wood. People get all up-in-arms and act as if their inalienable rights are being violated. It's frustrating, at best. So I guess I'm also with Bob's Mon Oncle! I'm glad you asked though, I can see how it might sound kind of obscure.

P.S. Here's the wiki article, in case any one is interested:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_ash...
Reply:I do not believe that is bad to move firewood just making extra work for yourself. He might have just been saying planting the plant, which apparently is a weed, is just creating more work for yourself because you will have to try to control the noxious weed which is as pointless as moving firewood.
Reply:He could mean not to chop down trees. Also he may be against burning the wood for the green house effect. But that is silly because no mater what we use to heat with will do that. And firewood in general has no value as timber and trees grow back after you cut them down.

What you should be against is pavement for parking lots etc.
Reply:The reason is bugs and fungus. Firewood that is infected with boring beetles or parasitic fungus can spread this way. Currently it is illegal to do so in states fighting the Emerald Ash Borer. RScott
Reply:He probably means don't transport the wood from the kudzu. It might spread by rooting itself again. Just my too sense.

Issue with midwestern wild grape vines........?

These wild vines grow like kudzu and kill off surrounding trees and shrubs it can wrap its vines around.

Plus, it seems to attract poison ivy and inflict more intense skin rashes than the poison ivy.

Is there any chemical that can be used to get rid of this?

If I were to drill holes in the root system and pour salt on it, could it possibly kill the plants near it?

Issue with midwestern wild grape vines........?
Best way to get rid of it is to cut it off at the root and put Brush and Stump Killer (available at your local garden store or nursery) directly on the cut surfaces with a sponge or paintbrush, being careful not to get it on anything you don't want to kill. It will go down into the roots and kill it out, but you have to do it while the cut is fresh.

Salt stays in the soil forever, it will keep other plants from growing in that area.

Ity doesn't attract poison ivy, but birds eat the berries and probably sit in the grapevines while they eat them and the seed falls on the ground under them, and germinate, and use the grapevines to climb on.Wear rubber chemical proof gloves when you are handling any of those vines.
Reply:If you want to do it yourself then put on gardening gloves, and cut them down to the ground. Have a syringe handy, and use it to put tree stump remover down into each vine's tap root. You may need to use something else to pierce a hole down into them. This will kill them off.

The poison ivy is not attracted by it. While growing, if the vine comes across poinson ivy it will collect the seed from it as it grows taking it elsewhere to germinate.
Reply:Contact DNR (department of natural resources) or a conservation department, or the department of agriculture. They should be able to tell you.

Kudzu is respected and enjoyed in China and Japan. But kudzu grows better in the South than it does in its native lands. Its natural insect enemies were not brought to the U.S. with it.

Does any animal break the sound barrier? If so, how?

An interesting featured question asked what was the first human invention to break the sound barrier. I wonder if any animal beat us to it? I assume no plant did! But if you know of one, please name it. Some volcanic eruptions (e.g. kimberlite pipes) and meteors break the sound barrier. Kudzu and bamboo grow fast, but not that fast!

Does any animal break the sound barrier? If so, how?
No animal can travel that fast naturally. Unless they were sitting on a volcano when it went off :)
Reply:While there are no animals that are capable of pushing their whole body faster than the speed of sound, birds like Whip-poor-wills will break the sound barrier with thier wingtips, creating a booming sound. Report It

Reply:A number of animals have broken the sound barrier in test aircraft, but not on their own power. Of course, man would be one of the animals that has done it in a powered machine.
Reply:a hummingbird's beating wings would be the only thing that could even compare
Reply:the north american turttle,.
Reply:with all the looking i did...i couldn't find anything on animals, but below is kind of a cool link of an actual picture taken of a jet breaking the sound barrier.
Reply:I do not believe any animal has traveled that fast under it's own motivation.
Reply:No obviously not but the fastest animals are as such :-

Land- Cheetah

Air - male Peregrine Falcon

Sea - Sailfish

Check out the mentioned site for some cool facts on animal extremes
Reply:I am sure some animals have been on a supersonic transport. AKA Concorde. That's surely broken the barrier. They say some military grunts are equivalent of chimps and wild animals. They too have broken the sound barrier on a fighter jet.
Reply:Yes insects can travel at a relative high speeds .. even some birds of prey too.. But they travel only small distances. In micro scopic level they do break sound barrier.
Reply:nope. not a chance

Questions about kudzu! PLEASE HELP!?
Invasive species

Kudzu was introduced from Japan into the United States in 1876 at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, where it was promoted as a forage crop and an ornamental plant. From 1935 to the early 1950s the Soil Conservation Service encouraged farmers in the southeastern United States to plant kudzu to reduce soil erosion, and the Civilian Conservation Corps planted it widely for many years.

However, it would soon be discovered that the southeastern US has near-perfect conditions for kudzu to grow out of control — hot, humid summers, frequent rainfall, temperate winters with few hard freezes (kudzu cannot tolerate low freezing temperatures that bring the frost line down through its entire root system, a rare occurrence in this region), and no natural predators. As such, the once-promoted plant was named a pest weed by the United States Department of Agriculture in 1953.
Reply:A vine, native to China and Japan but imported into the United States; originally planted for decoration, for forage, or as a ground cover.

Jon Allmett from Camp Sunshine & Camp Kudzu???

Does anyone know how he passed away this past summer? I'm doing research on children's camps in that area and keep coming across his name for musicians-does anyone have any additional information?

Jon Allmett from Camp Sunshine %26amp; Camp Kudzu???
he had a random brain aneurysm. he was a really inspirational guy and the effect that his death had in both the sunshine and kudzu communities is pretty intense. if you want to know anything else about kudzu, i can probably help you as i grew up going and now work there. good luck!

Why can't kudzu stop growing?

is there anyway to stop kudzu from growing?

Why can't kudzu stop growing?
Kudzu is sometimes referred to as "the plant that ate the South", a reference to how kudzu's explosive growth has been most prolific in the southeastern United States due to nearly ideal growing conditions. Significant sums of money and effort are spent each growing season to prevent kudzu from taking over roads, bridges, power lines, and local vegetation.

For successful long-term control of kudzu, the entire root system must be destroyed.

If any root crowns remain, the plant will grow back.

Mechanical methods involve cutting vines just below the ground then destroying all cut material.

Close mowing every month, regular heavy grazing for many successive years, or repeated cultivation may be effective.

If done in the spring, cutting must be repeated as regrowth appears to exhaust the plant's stored carbohydrate reserves.

Cut kudzu can be fed to livestock, burned, composted, or enclosed in plastic bags and sent to a landfill.

Late-season cutting should be followed up with immediate application of a systemic herbicide to the cut stems, to encourage transport of the herbicide into the root system.

Repeated applications of several soil-active herbicides have been used effectively on large infestations in forestry situations.

Efforts are being organized by the U.S. Forest Service to search for biological control agents for kudzu, and a particular fungus is currently in testing.

The city of Chattanooga, Tennessee has undertaken a trial program using goats and llamas that graze on the plant. Currently the goats are grazing along the Missionary Ridge area in the east of the city .
Reply:Well it would not be as good for the Kudzu to stop, lay down and die now would it :)

On a serious note kudzu can be a real problem. And simply put there is not any "easy" fix. If there was it would be solved already. Basically you have 3 options.

1) Live with it, remove (weed, rip and or cut) the vines from places they should not be, as they get there. Basically keep your yard and house clean and let the wilds go. If it gets the trees just cut the vines around the base to get it out of the canopy.

2). Aggressively approach the problem with all tools and attempt eradication of all kudzu on your location. This will require dedicated weeding, herbicide application and probably have to be pursued for years to be successfully. Many of the best herbicides will require a licensed applicator to buy / use. This is not a low cost option ( if you are heavily infested) expect it to cost an easy $50-$100 per acre and a big amount of time. Stop the assault for even for a year and its back like it was never gone.

3). The home owners best shot. Use your hands tools and common unrestricted herbicides like roundup or labels brush killer (stump killer works well). Treat with herbicide and after a month rip up what is not dead, destroy as much as you can. The repeat the application of herbicide on what you missed. Dd this as many times as you care or is needed.

This is may never get eradication but you can do a lot to get it under control. Remember, spray the heck out of the kudzu as per label. But if you have desirable things like shrubs or garden plants ( lawns etc) you cant just spray every thing. One trick is to get a foam paint brush some gloves and waders. Paint strait (concentrate) stump killer on just leaves of only kudzu (don't drip on good things). Basically dab 'em all over. Hit only the kudzu and things you hate, the brush killer or stump killer will kill all. Huge coverage of the many vines is very important but you don't need to hit all the leaves in a give square foot, just be average and even. The kudzu is often like 1 big plant (since all the vines are connected) and it can take a real herbicide dose to kill it back.

What are the reasons for kudzu's success in taking over the environment?

The problem is that it just grows too well! The climate of the Southeastern U.S. is perfect for kudzu. The vines grow as much as a foot per day during summer months, climbing trees, power poles, and anything else they contact. Under ideal conditions kudzu vines can grow sixty feet each year.

Where can i find kudzu root?

would i find it in an oriental grocery store? any other names it goes by that i need to know of?

Where can i find kudzu root?
I am a former chef and worked in Asia and Japan, it is not readily available even there either, the starch as the fellow said is a good alternative, and the kudzu that they grow in the US south is used more as a salad veg/cooked like collard greens and the roots are normally 6-12" long when harvested and dried then peeled and ground into a starch for cooking, dessert and is used in the preparation of Konyaku with the wild mountian yam in Japan, it is a jelly like food that is diced or sliced and used like noodles or starch veg in braised dishes.

Now if you live in a large metoropalitian area with an extensive Asian community, with a considerable grocery area, you may find dried, I have seen it here in Toronto Canada were I live, and we have a very large Chinese/Vietnamese and Japanese community, check your local outlets but it my be the Whole Foods or an Asian food store for the dried roots or starch powder.
Reply:The raw plant or root I don't know if you can get, but the starch I buy at Whole Foods.

They have it with the aisle with Asian foods, right next to the seaweed.
Reply:The state of Georgia is loaded w/ kudzu---try specialty stores in the Atlanta area.
Reply:health food stores

or the side of the road throughout the south.

How do you kill kudzu?

I just bought a house a couple of months ago, and the backyard is now almost completely covered up. HELP!!!!

How do you kill kudzu?
This is one of those things that requires you to resort to chemical warfare. Do not cut it back. You need the foliage to introduce the chemical into it's system. Buy concentrated Round Up and mix it double strength. (seriously) Spray it on and wait for it to die. It will almost die. It will struggle. In about two weeks most of it will look dead, but it will start sprouting up again. Kick it while it's down and spray it once more. Then if it gives you any crap, hit it again and again until it's toast.

Forget trying to dig it out or cut it back. It will win.

Round Up will attack the root system via the leaves. This will work, just don't give up.
Reply:I would recommend Round Up for Poison Ivy, Kudzu(yellow and white bottle), it comes in a 1.33 gal ready to use and a 32 oz concentrate if you have a very large area. You can purchase this product at Home Depot or Lowes. It works like a charm! Good Luck!
Reply:ROUNDUP- it will kill it. But KUDZU WILL RETURN!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Goats

Cut it at the stump and burn the stump then paint the inground portion with some stump killer and dont let it resprout
Reply:Kudzu is very serious. It can grow 4-6" a day!! You'll have to rent a big torch.....slash and burn, burn the roots out.
Reply:Oh, boy. You know, there was a billboard for a cellular company in my hometown that said, "We cover more of Alabama than kudzu." That's saying something!

From what I can tell, it's a big problem because it grows so fast and is hard to kill. See the sources below for some info on how to tackle your problem.

Good luck!
Reply:borrow some goats %26amp; find the tuber %26amp; dig it up

I think your life is beginning to revolve around the Kudzu vine. It is invasive, non native, chokes trees, plant life, grows up to 3' a day or more. Now that it was brought here it is taking over. Green is all it provides as far as I can see.

Have sloped yard with a ditch in front. Ditch looks like Mars. Ditch is very rocky. Need grass, plants, weeds?

Where the ditch and yard meet, there is a steep angle (45 degree or more). It is very rocky, I mean very rocky. It took me 20 minutes to dig a 4” side hole, 3 “ deep before rocks were everywhere. I was thinking of placing topsoil (3”-6”) and then planting, but I am afraid it will wash away. What can I plant beside Kudzu to grow and cover it up? I live in Zone 7 in Alabama.

Don't plant Kudzu! That stuff goes crazy! :)

Here are some plants that spread: prickly pear cactus (this stuff grows anywhere and spreads quickly), mint, columbine.

You could also just cover it in rocks (use the rocks that are there, buy some at the store or make trips to construction sites {new homes} and ask if you can take rocks).

Good luck! :)
